UNCORCKED! IN ITALY

This eclectic, 6 half-hour television series travels the whole of Italy. In each programme we visit one of Italy’s gloriously diverse regions, from the noble Piemonte to down to earth Calabria, from Rome’s hilly outskirts to opulent and frivolous Romagna. Through its people and the local celebrations we experience traditional food and modern wine, old techniques and stylish new enterprises. We meet characters who make Italy what it is – warm, idiosyncratic . . . and committed.

Italy produces more wine than any other country. The pleasures of Italy are sampled against the unique backdrop of Italian culture, scenery and people. Wine and food are used as a vehicle to explore this fascinating country.

Since Italian wine is above all meant to be a partner of food, the cuisine of each region is explored, including recipes of Arab, Phoenician and Norman origin.

Our guide around Italy is Master of Wine, Jancis Robinson. She is knowledgeable, personable, with a keen sense of humor, who fills in the wine background and the all-important tasting as we enjoy the rich and varied personalities, places, arts and food of this spectacular country.

This is a light, entertaining and sometimes irreverent look at a land where wine and food and intense individuality have been central for thousands of years. It’s a series with warmth, colour and laughter. It will tantalize the wine-lover – and make viewers discover their inner Italian.
